Now, with a motto that declares ‘Help where it’s needed most’ the NW-based charity is going even further and farther by raising funds to build mosques in some of the world’s most remote and impoverished villages. ![building a masjid](/legacy/931cb8cd-PHOTO-2021-03-02-11-59-28.jpg) During many of its global outreach programmes,. The HNCO team has identified other areas in the villages where aid is administer and brought home ideas such as free cataract removal clinics, educational equipment, sewing machines, to name a few. And, with every project that is complete, the organisation seeks a new challenge for itself.Its supporters and those that require its help. Recognising that the condition of mosques in many of the places the team was working were not fit for purpose at best. Or beyond repair at worst, the idea for ‘Building a Masjid’ was born. At the end of August 2020, foundations laid for the first HNCO-funded mosque in Pakistan; one month later, the main structure was complete. By Spring 2021, three new Masjid builds were in progress in Kenya and Bangladesh. ## The Mosque is the beating heart of every Muslim HNCO’s Gulshan Rehman commented: “The Mosque is the beating heart of every Muslim community. Therefore it broke our hearts to see the condition some of the Masjids were in during our food drives. And water projects and other global outreach programmes. In some of these villages, the Masjid may well be the only shared community building. As well as being a place to pray We perform religious ceremonies such as weddings and funerals, the Mosque is a place where food is served, classes taught and meetings can be held. These are just some of the practical services that the building can be use for. ## The purpose of Building masjid “In fact, the true purpose of a Masjid is far more significant in any location. In the far reaches of Asia and Africa. Where travel and transport limited to say the least, villagers can spend their whole life in one place. And also with the little influence from the ‘outside world. The Masjid can be the one constant when it comes to physical property . A tangible aspect of a person’s faith, a place where every member of a family celebrates major milestones. And residents of a village can congregate and enjoy a shared space.” For as little as £4,700 a small Masjid can built in Bangladesh; £15,000 pays for the same project in Malawi. And the cost is £9,500 in South Punjab, Pakistan. These are figures that HNCO is very keen to publicise as they are perhaps surprisingly modest to people wishing to donate, even during the rising costs that are upon us now. People can choose to make a one-off donation. Or if they are part of a fundraising group, like a school or sponsorship activity. They can keep track of donations made on the www.hajjahnazihacharity.co.uk page until the target has been met . Then a commemorative plaque will place at the completed mosque. The donors will receive a photo book. ### HNCO’s Gulshan Rehman HNCO’s Gulshan Rehman added: “We always knew that the Building a Masjid project would be a popular one and have been delight with the response. As ever, there is still plenty of work to done. We urge people to donate to the programme, whether it is a one-off payment or a regular donation. Given the low cost of materials and labour in the areas we are building in, beautiful Masjids can construct quickly for less than £10,000 in all cases, and for under £5,000 in many. “All Muslims make very special memories of their own community Mosque and those they visit on trips and holidays. By Building a Masjid for villagers that are less fortunate than us. We are providing a structure yes, But we are also gifting them a chance to make their own memories for years to come. The special nature of this programme means that it is ideal for families that are wishing to make a group donation.
