## Goodness itself is a part of human nature, and through committing good deeds with acts of kindness and compassion, humankind continues to survive, and thrive.

The Islam religion puts considerable emphasis on the importance of being charitable, kind, and compassionate towards their fellow man. Righteous acts in Islam get considered as Sadaqah, which comes from the root word Sadq, meaning truth.

### What is Sadaqah?

Sadaqah is an Islamic noun that translates into voluntary giving through a charitable act, money given to charity, or charitable giving. When looking up the meaning in the Quran, it means a voluntary offering at the will of the benefactor. The act of voluntary giving gets typically used as a way for the individual to draw themselves closer to Allah.

### Does Everyone Need to Pay Sadaqah?

No. Sadaqah is a voluntary donation that can get paid out, or acted out, to those eligible for receiving it at any time the donator wishes to make an offering.

### What is the difference between zakat and sadaqah?

While both are forms of charity and commonly interchangeable words, Zakat is obligatory whereas Sadaqah is voluntary giving. Additionally, Zakat is a required donation to a specific group of individuals who need the assistance, where Sadaqah can get donated in multiple forms (money, deeds, actions, etc.) and to those they choose. Unlike Zakat, Sadaqah has no fixed amount that must get paid, and individuals are free to donate as much as they'd like.

### Where Should Sadaqah Come From?

Sadaqah offerings should come from one's possessions and property from which they love, and according to Qur'an 2:274, is best offered in secret. Also, Sadaqah should not come with expressions of reproach towards those accepting the offer, and intentions must be pure and selfless to reflect the act of God.

### Who Can Receive Sadaqah?

The Quran shows eight categories of individuals who can receive monetary Sadaqah when offered. However, every act of decency is Sadaqah . There is not a single good deed that benefits another individual that gets considered unimportant, as it leads towards a righteous life.

- The Poor: Those with no income.
- The Needy: Those with an income that is not enough to meet their needs.
- Zakat Administrators who are appointed to receive both Zakat and Sadaqah donations for adequate distribution.
- Individual's hearts that have recently been returned to Islam.
- Individuals overwhelmed with debt.
- To share the message of Islam as an act of Allah.
- Travelers who do not have funds to return home.
- Freeing slaves and captives.

### What are The Effects of Sadaqah?

Offered Sadaqah enhances the overall well-being of the Islamic society and takes care of those who have re-given their heart to Islam. Muslims get brought together and pulled closer to Allah by making these voluntary donations to lighten debt, help in healing various sicknesses, and assist with getting the poor and needy back on their feet.

The individual offering Sadaqah purifies their heart of any traces of greed, malice, or an unhealthy love of wealth when they donate. Additionally, the act of Allah helps with removing bad luck, crossing the bridge of Siraat, and it guarantees heaven.

### Non-Financial Acts of Sadaqah-e-Jariyah

- Every act of kindness towards the fellow man such as providing a ride or offering an umbrella in the rain.
- Dhikr (remembering) of Allah.
- Smiling in front of another Muslim brother.
- Embracing righteousness into the heart and withstanding wickedness.
- Guiding another person along the right and holy path.
- Removing harmful objects or materials from a way of passage.
- Pouring water for a fellow Muslim

### Other Benefits of Sadaqah

- The best investment and offering of respect with Allah.
- Selfless act resulting in many rewards.
- Offered shade on the day of resurrection.
- Protection from tragedies and disasters.
- Helps with attaining the pleasure of Allah.

### Sadaqah During Ramadan

Sadaqah which has its origin from arabic word sidq is a concept whereby an Islamic believer gives deliberately and voluntarily; it means charity. The term sidq means sincerity, therefore when someone gives sadaqah shows that he or she has a sincere faith.

There is a clear difference between Sadaqah and being eligible for zakat, where zakat is compulsory giving when one has a surplus wealth. The Holy Quran describes Sadaqah as elegant credit, that is a charitable offering done out of kindness, affection, cause of god or humanity. There is no limitation on who one should give; it is not a must to give property or anything material, even a simple smile is a sadaqah according to the Islamic faith.

Sadaqah can be given as a show of appreciation to Allah (allah swt), for blessings .it can be given to events, festivals or ceremonies like childbirths, weddings or success celebrations. It can also be given on behalf or others even during sad times like mourning the death.
